High water conditions depend on the level of high tide. Twice daily, the ebb and flow of Venetian tides change according to lunar cycles and in part the sun. The phenomenon of a high water situation is more frequent in October, November and December, and occasionally, the water level is so high it actually floods some parts of the historical centre of Venice and parts of the lagoon islands.
Normally, as the Venetian do, it is enough to wear rubber boots and wait the tide to go out. The floodtide is usually limited to at few centimeters, and found in the lowest parts of the city. Two hours before the morning tide, electric sirens sound to inform people, and approximately four hours later the tide goes out completely.
The myth that Venice is underwater for days is a fallacy. High tide is a temporary situation and almost always limited to some part of the city, so don't worry!
The Bauer Hotel is generally protected from the high water...even on the ground level. In instances when necessary, the hotel uses trestle bridges to connect to others located around the flooded parts of the city to aid in the walking comfort of their guests.
